What You Will See

This viewpoint provides a spectacular, far-reaching western view of the Grand Canyon, making it a highly regarded location for watching the sunrise and sunset as the low light dramatically ignites the rock layers. From this elevated perspective, you will be able to see the iconic temples and buttes that rise from the canyon floor, including the jagged ridge named "The Alligator" by early explorers, and the nearby, sheer-dropping cliffs of The Abyss. What makes Mohave Point unique, however, is that it is one of the best locations along the South Rim to get a clear, unobstructed view of the Colorado River's famous whitewater rapids deep within the gorge, including the formidable Hermit Rapid, Granite Rapid, and Salt Creek Rapid, which appear as white streaks far below.

Approximately 10.4 miles from Red Feather Lodge. Allow at least 3-4 hours to see the viewpoints along Hermit Road.

Good to Know Before You Go

Viewpoint is only accessible by shuttle bus, walking or biking from March thru October. Last shuttle typically leaves about 30-60 minutes after sunset. Drive your vehicle to the viewpoint from November - February (weather permitting).
