You will see a prominent, namesake rock formation carved from Kaibab Limestone that, with a bit of imagination, resembles a duck perched on its nest, set against a stunning backdrop of the inner Grand Canyon.

What You Will See

You will see a prominent, namesake rock formation carved from Kaibab Limestone that, with a bit of imagination, resembles a duck perched on its nest, set against a stunning backdrop of the inner Grand Canyon. The viewpoint offers a beautiful, broad panorama, showcasing the Colorado River winding far below in the Granite Gorge and a textbook cross-section of the canyon's colorful geologic layers. The unique aspect of this viewpoint, located on Desert View Drive, is its famous geologic feature itself: the Duck on a Rock formation. While the "bill" has eroded over time, the remaining distinctive shape allows visitors to participate in the long-standing tradition of seeing familiar shapes in the canyon's immense and often overwhelming scale, making it a favorite spot for a quick, convenient, and imaginative photo stop.
